freya syngur

for mixed choir

about

Freya Syngur (Faroese: Freya Sings) was written in collaboration with Faroese author Anna Malan Jógvansdóttir and is a piece about grief.

The music illustrates the journey through the five stages of grief as understood through the Kübler-Ross model, moving back and forth through the various stages before finally arriving at the final stage of acceptance.

The text is written from the perspective of the Norse goddess Freya who cries tears of red gold when her husband, Od, goes away.
