I want to trust you
installation
About
'I want to trust you' (2026) is an installation work that was presented at the GÁTT Festival 2026. This composition played as a continuous loop at three different locations at Føroya Fólkaháskúli. As festivalgoers moved through the exhibition space, they would encounter 'I want to trust you' at different intervals and experience different sections of the three-part composition.
'I want to trust you' is a piece dealing with the difficulty of trusting others again after having one's trust broken. The title implies the possible omission of a "but": perhaps "I want to trust you (but I can't)." The three installation locations corresponding to three different parts of the composition represent repeated attempts at finding the courage to trust.
'I want to trust you' was composed using samples from three pre-existing compositions: 'let me cry' (2022) performed by the BBC SSO, 'heit tár fullu...' (2023) performed by the Viridian Sax Quartet, and 'múrurin' (2023) performed by Aldubáran. It also includes typical electronic music samples like a kick and snare, and of course the famous amen break from 'Amen, Brother' (1969) by the Winstons.
