As the first of the three thematically related piano works Eli Tausen á Lava composed during the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, In Fog stands as a towering colossus before the other two. Characterized by the solemn and deliberate exposition, repetition and transformation of its one musical theme, In Fog envelops the listener in a dark and deeply resonant soundscape.

The namesake of In Fog is the images it conjures in the mind of the composer of being on a Faroese mountain during the season of mists, only able to make out the next cairn on the path but otherwise completely blinded by fog. Perhaps there is also a certain fog-like quality in the way the sustained pitches of the piece flow into one another.
