The idea of "the red thread" that runs through a series of different things and unites them by a common theme is an idiom that is used commonly in the Nordic countries. In Reyði Tráðurin (Faroese: The Red Thread), the main theme similarly runs through and unites the five sections of the piece — showing up in different forms but always remaining essentially the same.
