rúmd

for brass quintet or strings or piano

about

"I originally wrote this piece to explore how to create a varied piece of music from as little material as possible through musical metamorphosis. However, right around the time I finished the piece in February 2021, NASA's rover Perseverance landed on Mars.

Seeing the fantastic, high-definition images from our neighbouring world awakened entirely new associations in my mind. I named the piece Rúmd (Faroese, Space) — a name with a double meaning, referring both to outer space and to the mostly empty measures of the music."
